Rara Lake Trek

This trek to Rara Lake is a wonderful trek in the west, for those who love to see remote area and the traditional culture of Nepal. The trail is very much different than the popular and most visited routes, resulting in special glimpses of culture and untouched environment, compared to other regions in the country. Trekking in this area involves a great deal of up-and-down walking through forests and isolated villages.

Being among local people with their distinctive culture and traditions during the trek, will give you a unique experience and makes your holiday a wonderful journey. This area belongs to and is protected by Rara National Park. Counting 106 square kilometer, this is the smallest National Park of Nepal . Even though, Rara Lake is the biggest lake of Nepal; with 10.8 square kilometer of lake, at an altitude of 2990 m. The lake is surrounded by richly forested hills. Chuchemara Danda, at 4087 m, is the best point to get stunning views of the lake, the thickly forested hillsides and the snow-capped peaks around it.

The park includes a trans-Himalayan valley offering high ridges covered with forest and alpine pastures. Rara National Park is known as the home of Himalayan black bear, red panda, ghorals and many more species. Other summits in the park area are Ruma Kand (3731 m) and Malika Kand (3444 m), situated on the north of the lake.

Grade The Rara lake trek can be kept in moderate category. To adjust ourselves to the high altitudes, we will take rest and acclimatize from time to time, to prevent you from facing any difficulties. Anyone with a reasonable level of physical fitness can walk this trek. Nevertheless, it is recommended to train your walking skills before you start this trek: this will help you in walking several hours a day. We will walk up to maximum 7 hours a day, after that you will have free time. It is important to take rest in this time, to adapt to the increasing altitude.

Day 1: Flight from Kathmandu to Nepalgunj. Overnight stay in Nepalgunj.
Day 2: Flight from Nepalgunj to Jumla. Overnight stay in Jumla.
Day 3: Trek from Jumla to Danphe Lagna (3130 m). Overnight stay in Danphe Lagna.
Day 4: Trek from Danphe Lagna (3130 m) to Chautha (2770 m). Overnight stay in Chautha.
Day 5: Trek from Chautha (2770 m) to Dhotu (2400 m). Overnight stay in Dhotu.
Day 6: Trek from Dhotu (2400 m) to Rara Lake (3062 m). Overnight stay in Rara Lake.
Day 7: Day of rest and excursions around Rara Lake. Overnight stay in Rara Lake.
Day 8: Trek from Rara Lake (3062 m) to Gorosingha (3000 m). Overnight stay in Gorosingha.
Day 9: Trek from Gorosingha (3000 m) to Sinja (2440 m). Overnight stay in Sinja.
Day 10: Trek from Sinja (2440 m) to Jaljala Chaur (2900 m). Overnight stay in Jaljala Chaur.
Day 11: Trek from Jaljala Chaur (2900 m) to Jumla. Overnight stay in Jumla.
Day 12: Flight from Jumla to Nepalgunj and finally Kathmandu.
