Mountain Leader

The Lower Dolpo trek, located on the isolated corner of Trans Himalayan zone Dolpo, is a virgin and divine place in Mid-Western Nepal. Shey Phoksundo National Park in the core of Dolpo Region is famous for the snow leopards that live there, next to many other animals. The Dolpo area is famous for Phoksundo Lake, which is the deepest lake in the entire Himalayan Region. This region is absolutely breathtaking and impressive, pure and rich of nature as it is.

The trek through Dolpo region is a lifetime experience and will not contain any climbing, but steep walking on ancient-old (narrow) pathways will be part of the trek. Therefore it might be good to train your walking skills before joining this trek. The altitude in this area ranges from 2500 m to 5070 m. There is only a small amount of villages and homes in Dolpo; no lodges or other tourist places are available.

We will meet some people living in Dolpo on our way, but overnight stays and food we will have to provide ourselves. That is why Dolpo treks can only be done in a group: together with cooks, porters, guides, tents and other needs you can cross the area and settle down each day to have a meal and sleep. A permit is required to enter this area. It is hard to arrange this permit, because the rules and control of this area is strict. For all these reasons it is highly recommended, maybe even unavoidable, to plan or book a trek like this through a travel agency.

Grade The Lower Dolpo trek can be kept in moderate category. To adjust ourselves to the high altitudes, we will take rest and acclimatize from time to time, to prevent you from facing any difficulties. Anyone with a reasonable level of physical fitness can walk this trek. Nevertheless, it is recommended to train your walking skills before you start this trek: this will help you in walking several hours a day. We will walk up to maximum 7 hours a day (this time is including having lunch on the way) and this walking is partly steep, for this reason we recommend some training in advance. It is important to take rest after walking each day, to adapt to the increasing altitude. The crew which travels with the group will prepare our food and build the tents.
