Mani Rimdu Festival Trek

The Mani Rimdu festival trekking is a journey on which the Mani Rimdu festival will be celebrated at the monasteries of Tengboche, Thami and Chiwang, right after the full moon of autumn. Performed by the monks of the Chiwang and Tengboche monasteries, this festival depicts the victory of Buddhism over the ancient 'Bon' religion. The Mani Rimdu festival is a colourful, noisy occasion that takes place in the most spectacular setting.

The monks, with elaborate masks and costumes on, perform a serie of ritualistic dances for the triumph of Buddhism over Bon, the ancient animistic religion of Tibet. Other rituals will also be performed, like fire offerings and making a complex and beautiful sand mandala.

Grade The Mani Rimdu Festival trek can be kept in moderate category. Anyone with a reasonable level of physical fitness can walk this trek. Nevertheless, it is recommended to train your walking skills before you start this trek: this will help you in walking several hours a day. We will walk up to maximum 8 hours a day, after that you will have free time. It is important to take rest in this time, to adapt to the increasing altitude.
