Ladakh often branded as the land of numerous passes, mystic lamas, the Broken Moon and the last Shangri la, beckons tourists to discover its mountains, gorges, winding rivers, glacial slopes and shimmering lakes. The vast wilderness here has its own charm and mysticism.

Ladakh is bounded by two of the world's highest mountains ranges, the Karakoram and the great Himalayas. The altitude varies between 9000 to 14000 feet above the sea level.
Before the Indo-Pak ceasefire between India and Pakistan the Ladakh region comprised the three district of Leh, Kargil and Skardo. Later the district of Skardo and a part of Kargil became the territory of Pakistan occupied Kashmir (PoK) and Ladakh remained with Jammu & Kashmir state. During the 1962 war between China and India, a part of Leh was also usurped by China.

The People:
The Tibeto-Burman and the Indo Aryan descent inhabit Ladakh and its culture has the major influence of Tibetan Bhuddhism,Islam,spread during 15 th century, has considerably grown in size and reach. Small communities of Christantly. Hindu and Sikh also form the parts of the population.

Language Spoken:
Ladakhi is the main language and its script is Tibetan. Other local spoken languages are Balti, Shina, Brokskat (Dardi) and Changskat. Many people can also speak in Hindi, Urdu and some in English as well mainly in the hotels staff can speak fluent English. A small number of tourist guides can also speak in German, French and Japanese etc.

Geography:
The seam between the Ladakh range and the Himalayas is a spectacular phenomenon of the intercontinental collision between the India and the Eurasian landmasses, approx 60-65 million events led to the geo-dynamic evolution of the Himalayas and formation of the present day landscape of Ladakh.
