Dudhkunda Khaling Rai Trail

Description

Dudhkunda (4560 m), a holy mountain lake in the lap of Mt. Numbur, is a popular trekking destination in Solu. Dudhkunda, which literally means 'lake of milk', is said to be a sacred lake and is revered by the local people. It is believed that taking a dip in its holy water will fulfill one's wishes. During full-moon night in August, a weeklong celebration is held here by pilgrims and jhankris (Shaman priests). While travelling through this area, we will meet the highlanders, the Khaling Rai people, who are the dominant class of this area. You will get the chance to learn more about their  traditions, like their food and their rituals. The trail will take you through rhododendron forests, welcoming villages and a variety of wildlife. Nature and culture can both be experienced during this journey!
