Annapurna Sanctuary Trek

Description

This is one of the best treks in the world if you like to get close to very high peaks without going on very high elevation. This trek is a true classic, with some of the highest and most spectacular mountains in the world surrounding you. The views on the grassy valleys and massive glaciers are breathtaking. The trek guides you to the south of Annapurna I, which offers beautiful views on the Fishtail peak (named Machhapuchhre). A magnificent sunrise over Dhaulagiri and the experience of watching the Annapurna ranges from Poon Hill, are also part of this trek. Trekking to the Annapurna sanctuary along local trails, through forests, villages and terraced farmland, you will be treated to a wonderful mountain scenery and a unique opportunity to experience Nepalese life and culture. Walk through villages, forests and upstream along up through the impressive Modi Khola gorge into the vast mountain ringed amphitheatre of the sanctuary. Further south, the gorge opens up into a wide and fertile valley: the domain of the Gurungs. The middle and upper portions of the Modi Khola offer some of the best short trekking routes in Nepal. The valley is located in such way that these treks can be easily combined with treks into the Kali Gandaki region, further to the west.

Grade

The Annapurna sanctuary trek can be kept in moderate category. To adjust ourselves to the high altitudes, we will take rest and acclimatize from time to time, to prevent you from facing any difficulties. Anyone with a reasonable level of physical fitness can walk this trek. Nevertheless, it is recommended to train your walking skills before you start this trek, so it is more easy to walk several hours a day.

Highlights
  • High peaks within your reach without walking on very high elevations
  • Gurung villages and Buddhist villages
  • Chance on catching the great eagle migration when trekking in October
  • Full blooming rhododendron forests when trekking in March
